September 2018 Playscape The Danish firm JDS Architects created the Skinny Playscape as part of their new boardwalk design for Kalvebod Brugge, a waterfront area of Copenhagen. The playscape is a continuous orange metal strip that provides steps, balance beams, ladders and other challenges for adventuresome youngsters. Ahhh, the Dutch and their love for the colour orange. And did you notice? There are no rubber mats or safety nets. H&W’s New WebsiteOne of the most difficult but most exciting projects a design studio can undertake is the development of their own website. Of course we want to present our portfolio well, but we also have to consider how to show our clients, both current and potential, our processes and culture. Informing, inspiring and surprising users is also extremely important to us. We spend valuable time talking about planning, designing and developing useful digital communication tools for our clients — now it‘s time for us to practice what we preach. On the site you’ll find our people, our work, our blog, and an ever-changing area we’re calling Channel. So it is with great pride and joy that we flip the switch on the next www.hamblywoolley.com. Munk School AR 2017/2018The world often seems to defy comprehension. The Munk School works hard to make sense of growing problems that may be impossible to solve. Their annual progress report uncovers and shares insights their students, faculty and fellows uncover in their commitment to advance the field of global affairs. Our design aptly reflects this bold stance. UTSC Commons Fall 2018Our cover image of a torn Syrian map was created for this issue’s feature article on two Syrian refugees – sisters who are now attending UTSC. The image is a nod to the Refugee Nation flag designed by Yara Said in 2017. The flag was inspired by the orange and black life vests that have come to symbolize the plight of displaced peoples. The Fall 2018 issue goes on to investigate other aspects of the refugee experience here in Canada, and reveals stories from UTSC faculty, students, staff and alumni. |
