Building connections out yonder

Tourism WA staff have been out in the regions recently to discuss local tourism initiatives, learn more about issues facing the industry and build connections with our stakeholders. Executive Director of Industry, Aviation and Markets Carolyn Turnbull headed to Esperance to share Tourism WA’s current and future marketing plans with the shire and tourism operators at a workshop organised by Australia’s Golden Outback. Senior Manager WA Partnerships and Industry Kym Francesconi delivered presentations in Mingenew and Collie, while A/Director Destination Development and Projects Jackie Crooks was joined by Project Manager Gary Taylor in Kununurra for the inaugural Kimberley Indigenous Tourism Workshop, to provide information and guidance for developing Aboriginal tourism. The Tourism WA team is planning more regional visits with a fresh round of Our Story: The Spirit of Adventure Deep Dive workshops rolling out shortly. For more information read our latest news story on the corporate website.

Wildflower-friendly towns awarded

The Shire of Merredin and Shire of Toodyay have achieved ‘wildflower-friendly’ status as a result of the 2020-21 Wildflower Friendliness Award Scheme. The scheme encourages local governments to protect WA’s valuable wildflowers and native vegetation along roads and in nature reserves, for visitors and locals to enjoy. WA has one of the largest collection of wildflowers on Earth with more than 12,000 species – which is a unique selling point for the State. Both destinations will receive additional marketing support from Tourism WA to help increase visitors to these wildflower destinations during the upcoming 2021 season.

Voting open for WA's Top Tourism Town

Public voting has opened for the 2021 GWN7 Top Tourism Town Awards. The public can vote online for their favourite city or town and go into the draw to win a $5,000 holiday in WA or a $500 voucher to spend at a RAC Park or Resort. Voting closes April 8, 2021. Happy campers at the Perth Caravan and Camping Show

Congratulations to the Caravan Industry Association WA for staging a successful 2021 Perth Caravan & Camping Show. As part of the event, Tourism WA hosted a booth which showcased a WA road trip as the ultimate way to experience our State’s landscapes and adventures. The stand highlighted the East Kimberley region as a ‘bucket-list’ destination. Our team met and talked to hundreds of potential WA ‘wanderers’ about where they intended to visit and it looks like all corners of WA are set to welcome caravan and camping visitors this year. According to statistics from our consumer competition, 87 per cent of WA travellers will consider booking a tour as part of their holiday, which is great news for our industry.
