No images? Click here ![]() Together With Good morning and happy Independence day. I have said it before, and I will repeat it.I find it fascinating that the senior living industry tries hard to distance itself from the skilled nursing industry. On the marketing side, I get it. If you're selling active adults, CCRC, ALF, etc., you want to distance yourself from any perception of being a nursing home. On the talent side, it's never made sense to me. I have operated stand-alone SNFs, not-for-profit CCRCs, for-profit senior living, religious-owned, and family-owned facilities. I've seen terrible leadership and world-class leadership. A strong NHA runs circles around the rest of the industry. That statement may rub some people wrong, but it's true. There is no grittier individual than a successful NHA. If you're looking for next-level talent, start your search there.
Elevate your leadership Today's edition is short but packs a powerful lesson. To be honest, this topic is something that I still get wrong most of the time. Having the confidence to say and admit that I don't have the answer. One of the things that have helped me is getting into the habit of asking this question. "How do you think we should handle this?" The more I ask this question before giving my opinion; the more strategic problem solving occurs within my teams. Over time this helps to foster engaged and higher-performing teams. Leaders learn to think critically and come up with ideas and solutions beyond any that I could recommend. I don't have all of the answers. Actually, I don't have most of the answers. Admit it more often and watch your team blossom.
Webinar opportunity Be sure to register for the upcoming webinar from our partners at Base 10. Your clinical team won't want to miss learning about the role nurses and precision medicine can play in managing cardiovascular disease in the skilled nursing and senior living setting. I'm impressed with the common sense services Base 10 brings to our industry. Utilizing a resident's specific genes to determine the most appropriate medication regimen means better resident outcomes, reduced med pass times, and decreased pharmacy spending.- The trifecta. ![]() Grab your coffee and make it a great day.
