Groupies have been an established fixture on the rock music scene since the 1960s, putting the 'sex' into "sex, drugs and rock'n'roll."

 

A few became famous, like Cynthia 'Plaster Caster' Albritton. Others, like Nancy Spungen , were more infamous. Groupies have even inspired songs by the Beatles and Michael Jackson.

 

Given that groupies are often celebrities in their own right, it was a major publicity coup for the August edition of Playboy magazine to be dedicated to the 'queen' of Argentinean groupies. Mariana Diarco, the model and star famed for an affair she once had with a famous Argentinean rock musician, was the star of the August issue - so Playboy devised an innovative, rock'n'roll promotion...
