Wine of the Weekend

Mon Frère California Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

To get 2021 started on the right foot, we are opening a bottle that celebrates the connection between us and those special people with whom we choose to share life’s triumphs and tribulations. Mon Frère California Cabernet Sauvignon takes a playful approach with its label but a serious focus on making what’s in the glass. Unifying and balancing some of California’s most legendary Cabernet regions is not easy, but the Mon Frère team has done this with precision and created a wine that all of California can salute. Merci!

Tasting Notes: The 2017 Mon Frère Cabernet is a blend of 93% Cabernet and 7% Malbec, making it a juicy, fresh expression of these grapes. Plum and blackberry greet your nose along with hints of fresh flowers. Flavours of ripe forest berries and oak spices are delivered with a bold mouth feel and structured tannins that linger through the finish.

Enjoy With: Richly flavoured dishes like roast beef, lamb burgers, pasta dishes, rich sauces and ripe cheeses.

Style: A dry, full-bodied, fruity red wine.

Terroir/Region: Mon Frère Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from some of the most famous regions in California: Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino, Lodi and Paso Robles. The winemaking team has the difficult mission of blending grapes from all these sources to harmonize layers of ripeness, fruit, acidity and structure into a final wine. Mission accomplished.

Producer: Mon Frère began as the “little brother” to Au Contraire, a California winery specializing in high quality Chardonnays and Pinot Noir wines in a classically French style. Since then, Mon Frère has done some growing up. Still just the little brother? Au Contraire, Mon Frère!

Availability: Mon Frère California Cabernet Sauvignon is available in the Vintages section of your local LCBO and for online ordering. Pick up a bottle today and maybe a second to give to your “Mon Frère”!
