Music Generation has launched a new phase of expansion

Phase 2 announcement 

Music Generation has launched a new phase of expansion and is now calling for applications from Music Education Partnerships in new areas of Ireland to participate in the programme. €3m in funding, from philanthropic investment by U2 and The Ireland Funds, is available through this call, which will see Music Generation established in up to five new areas of the country between 2017 and 2021. Guidelines, application details and further information about ‘Phase 2’ can be found online at www.musicgeneration.ie/apply. Music Generation is Ireland’s national music education programme, initiated by Music Network, co-funded by U2, The Ireland Funds, the Department of Education and Skills and Local Music Education Partnerships.

General Information Session 

On foot of the launch of Phase 2, Music Generation will host a General Information Session this Thursday 26th January, from 12 noon – 2pm at the Athlone Springs Hotel, Athlone. The session will including a presentation about Phase 2, outline important dates and application details and will include a Q&A session with National Director, Rosaleen Molloy. A light lunch and tea/coffee will be provided. The event is open to the public and free to attend, but advance booking is required. Book your place online at www.musicgeneration.ie.

Waltons Music for Schools Competition

Deadline: Friday 10th March 2017

Announcing the sixth annual Waltons Music for Schools Competition, a non‐profit national event celebrating music in Irish schools.

Presented by Waltons Music Ireland and Waltons New School of Music, in association with RTÉ lyric fm and the National Concert Hall, Dublin, Ireland, the Competition is open to all Irish primary and post-primary schools. (Over the past five years, schools from all 26 counties have participated.)

Twelve Finalist school music groups (six primary and six post-primary) will be selected to perform in a gala Finalists Concert in the National Concert Hall on 2nd May, and six of these schools will win a total of €10,000 worth of musical instruments and equipment from Waltons!

Proposals sought for PRS for Music Foundation’s Beyond Borders

Deadline: Thursday 23rd February 2017

PRS for Music Foundation is seeking proposals from UK and Ireland based organisations wanting to co-commission or tour new music from all genres for the Beyond Borders programme.

Beyond Borders was established in 2010 to support high quality co-commissions and tours, stimulating collaboration between composers, performance groups and music organisations. The programme awards up to £15,000 to co-commissioning and touring projects including any associated recording costs.

This will be the third year that the Arts Council of Ireland joins PRS for Music Foundation, Creative Scotland, Arts Council of Wales and Arts Council of Northern Ireland as one of the programme partners.

Applications must be made by organisations which are commissioning or promoting new music (e.g. classical, traditional, jazz, contemporary) with at least one other partner based in the UK or Ireland.

IMRO | RTÉ Scoring For Film Program 2017 | Seeks Composer Submissions

Deadline: Friday 10th March 2017

Following on from the success of previous collaborative film scoring workshops, the Irish Music Rights Organisation (IMRO) and the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, in association with Filmbase, The Contemporary Music Centre (CMC) and Screen Training Ireland will bring together the very best emerging Irish filmmakers and composers to work on an exciting collaborative project.

The focus of the project is a one day recording session in RTÉ studios in June 2017. This will involve the RTÉ Concert Orchestra performing and recording original scores for short film submissions received from emerging Irish filmmakers.

Applications are now sought from interested composers who would like to participate in this project.

The 2nd Peter Rosser Composition Award 2017

Deadline: 4pm, Friday 28th April 2017

The 2nd Peter Rosser Composition Award 2017 is now open.

Three prizewinning composers will be shortlisted by Friday 12th May 2017 and the shortlisted composers will be informed by email. All shortlisted works will be workshopped, performed and recorded (as well as video streamed) by Hard Rain Soloist Ensemble at a special event in Red Box Recording Studio, Belfast on Friday 26th May 2017.

Celebrating Irish Music Therapy: A One Day Symposium

This event will celebrate the professional practice of music therapy in Ireland. The MA Music Therapy at UL is the only qualification in music therapy in Ireland and this event will present the diversity of music therapy practice being delivered across Ireland and abroad, featuring well-established and high quality evidence based work. Research excellence in Ireland in the field of music therapy will also be featured. Keynote speakers include Dr Wendy Magee and Dr Julie Sutton.

This symposium will appeal to anyone interested in the profession of music therapy. It will service as continuing professional development for music therapists, health and social care professionals and community musicians and will also be of interest to researchers and academics interested in the role of arts on health and well-being.
