Time for a pulse check No images? Click here ![]() Together With Good morning. The change of the season and colder mornings always signify two things for me.Number one- How are Thanksgiving and Christmas staffing schedules looking? It's never too early to begin planning. And Number two- In about 100 days, I will be sitting across the table from my boss, hearing their opinions on how my performance met or missed the mark this year. And I'll be doing the same thing with my team. Before we dive in, today's newsletter is sponsored by HealthDrive. Don't settle for subpar performance and unrealistic, facility-responsible orders being dumped on you by podiatrists, dentists, and audiologists. Bring in a partner who knows the nuts and bolts of your operation and how they can support your communities and your residents' needs and goals. Need reliable mental health providers? They've got them too. Reach out to rwells@healthdrive.com for more information.
Elevate your performance Now is the time to self-evaluate what you're doing well and any opportunities you might need to hone in. Here's an excellent, easy exercise to walk yourself through and start a productive conversation with your boss. It's also a helpful exercise to have your team walk you through. Begin by rating yourself. Where would you land if evaluation time was tomorrow instead of 2-3 months? Next, define where you would like to be rated come evaluation time. Hopefully, this stays consistent or improves upon your current self-identified rating. To connect the two dots, list up to three actions, behaviors, outcomes, or tactics you need to initiate and achieve to connect your current self-identified performance with your desired performance rating. You've essentially created a high-level roadmap to get there. During your next 1:1, review with your boss where you see yourself currently, where you would like to be, and how you plan to get there. Ask for their feedback on all three aspects. Where do you see me now? What path do you see from where I am to where I want to be? What checkpoints can we implement to ensure I continue down the right path? You now have a mutually agreed upon goal and path to achieve that goal. You've communicated your intentions, gained alignment, and have a clear path to success. Your boss is no longer a spectator but an active participant in your journey. Good luck!
