100th anniversary for Hurstwood's landmark building
Wednesday marked the 100th anniversary of the opening of the Hurstwood owned Blackburn Magistrates Court.
Construction of the stunning Edwardian building began in 1910 with a final cost of just under £47,000. It was formally opened on 25th July 1912 by Sir Harry Hornby.
As well as the courts and police station, the building originally featured a recreation room and library for police officers.
We have made a major investment in Blackburn, not only with the Court buildings but also with the Apollo Cinema which is currently undergoing refurbishment. We are delighted that the Courthouse has reached its centenary and hope that it will be around for many years to come.

The building is located on Northgate in Blackburn town centre and comprises a range of office and storage space in addition to the courts.
