Prints, Posters, and Ephemera at Harper’s East Hampton

As our summer season in East Hampton draws to a close, we invite you to visit an exhibition of framed prints, posters, and ephemera in our adjacent gallery. Opening on Saturday, September 4, the presentation will continue through Wednesday, October 6.

5. Diane Arbus

Diane Arbus: A Monograph Published by Aperture (Poster)

Millerton, New York: Aperture, 1972. Offset lithographic poster. 16 x 12 inches (framed: 18.5 x 14.5 inches). A promotional poster for the seminal Arbus monograph commissioned by MoMA curator John Szarkowski to accompany her retrospective in the year after her suicide. This poster features her iconic photograph of twin girls, used for the cover of the monograph as well. A touch of overall age toning, otherwise in fine, excellent condition.

16. Martin Wong

Benefit For Harriet Gray (Poster)

Arcata, CA: Bug Press, 1974. Silkscreen print on paper. 17.5 x 23.5 inches (framed: 20 x 25.5 inches). Poster for a benefit for Harriet Gray, a Humboldt County Board of Supervisors candidate; image is a portrait of Gray driving a car. Screenprinted in black and blue, on tan paper, with Wong's chop in red. Pencil notation "#1" verso. Early poster created by Wong years before his move to New York City, while he was living in Northern California in the Eureka area. The event is advertised as happening "this Sunday," which suggests the posters would have been put up in the few days before the benefit, probably in small numbers. A few spots of minor surface color loss, and one short edge-tear, else near fine condition. Rare survival.
