Wine of the Weekend

Freakshow Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

If you didn’t know already, great wine makes us freak out like running into your favourite celebrity on the street, or seeing the 7’s line up on a slot machine. We are definitely freaking out about this week’s wine: Michael David Freakshow Cabernet Sauvignon has a delicious taste, is responsibly and ethically sourced, and supports a family business over 150 years old. Oh, and these guys have a lot of fun – just look at the label.

Tasting Notes: Stuffed with muscle and finesse, Freakshow Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 boasts big flavours of bing cherry, fig and dark berry jam. Fourteen months in oak barrels adds spice notes and toasted wood and nut accents to this full-flavoured Cabernet Sauvignon.

Enjoy With: Stews, steak and grilled meats, sticky barbeque sauces and hard cheeses.

Style: A full-bodied, rich, smooth red wine.

Terroir / Region: The Michael David winery is located in Lodi, California – the perfect place to grow grapes to make big, bold red wines. The winery and its growers all follow the ‘Lodi Rules’, over 100 “rules,” or practices geared towards environmental, social and economic sustainability. Look for the sticker on the bottle!

Producer: The Phillips family has been in Lodi since 1865, with the great-great-great grandparents of bothers Michael and David planting the roots. The family began growing grapes in the early 1900s but didn’t make its own wines until Michael and David founded the winery. With Michael’s kids now getting into the family business, the 6th generation is in training!

Availability: The 2018 Michael David Freakshow Cabernet Sauvignon is available in the Vintages section of your local LCBO and online as of March 6, but some stores will already have it on the shelf. You can freak out now!
