No images? Click here ![]() Together With Good afternoon. I once had a resident that would go from office to office at the community and slowly open the door and peek to see who was in the building and at what time. She would then, completely unsolicited, give me a report each day letting me know when everyone came to and left work. It became a big joke with the team, and we would do all sorts of things to throw her off. Dive under our desks, and sneak out through the window from time to time. You have to find a way to make it fun.Special thanks to Accushield for supporting our newsletters. If you're still using paper sign-ins for your community, definitely check them out.
Maximize your commute Here is part 2/2 of my must-read books. Enjoy! These books have completely changed how I lead, manage, inspire, and interact with my team and leaders. Here is the second half (in no particular order) of my top 12 book recommendations based on the over 200 I've listened to. The Stoic Challenge by William Irvine Leaders are held to a higher standard. Every move we make, facial expression, and decision is scrutinized. The best leaders are the best under pressure, and this book gives you the tools to sharpen your skills. Favorite Quote "Some things are within our power, while others are not. Within our power are opinion, motivation, desire, aversion, and, in a word, whatever is of our doing." How to Win Friends & Influence People by Dale Carnegie The more experience I get, the more I realize that leadership is all about forming solid relationships. I love the actionable insights in this book. Favorite Quote "The rare individual who unselfishly tries to serve others has an enormous advantage." Atomic Habits by James Clear This one is on almost everyone's list for a good reason. This book always reminds me how far I am from being efficient but motivates me to take the proper steps. Favorite Quote "Every action you take is a vote for the person you wish to become." How to Be a Power Connector by Judy Robinett I'm an introvert, and this book taught me I can still make meaningful and mutually beneficial professional relationships. It's all about providing value. Favorite Quote "Skill is fine, and genius is splendid, but the right contacts are more valuable than either." Extreme Ownership by Jocko Willink This is a great book to read or listen to when you're in a rut. A Navy Seals experience and leadership advice. Favorite Quote "Implementing Extreme Ownership requires checking your ego and operating with a high degree of humility. Admitting mistakes, taking ownership, and developing a plan to overcome challenges are integral to any successful team. The E-Myth Revisited by Michael Gerber This book is an excellent reminder of how important robust onboarding and process clarity is. Michael's attention to detail is impressive. How do you create tight and clearly defined processes, so they don't rely on you to function? Favorite Quote "If your business depends on you, you don't own a business- you have a job. And it's the worst job in the world because you're working for a lunatic!"
Take a step toward efficiency Together with Accushield Each week I try to accomplish a single task at home or at work that will provide exponential efficiency in the future. Last week, I bought and labeled three mail bins in my home office and labeled them new mail, bills that need to be paid, and paid bills. I was wasting time every month digging through bills and trying to remember which ones I had already paid. It took 5 minutes and will save me 30 minutes each month moving forward—exponential efficiency. A few months ago, we became exponentially more efficient in our communities by installing the Accushield sign-in kiosks. A decision that took minimal time and effort and continues to save my team members several hours each day. Not to mention, I no longer am dedicating staffing to screening residents and visitors and have reallocated those resources to resident care—exponential efficiency.
