A timely reminder about bushfire threat

Dear supporter,

Recently we saw Brisbane residents reaching for their preparedness plans as a bushfire threatened homes in the inner north-west suburbs. It was a timely reminder that bushfire is a threat in urban - as well as rural - areas. With the dry weather set to continue into summer, experts are warning of an increasing risk of bushfire.

Continuing in the theme of last month’s preparedness activity, take advantage of the fine weather to do some yard work on your property. This is the perfect time to get out and about on the weekend and maintain your trees and garden. It's much better doing this now rather than worrying about it in the heat of summer with storms on the horizon.

City residents prepare for action

It started as a controlled hazard reduction burn, but quickly became a bushfire that threatened homes in the Brisbane Suburbs of Enoggera, Mitchelton, Ashgrove and The Gap. Local residents spent a busy and anxious day preparing for possible action or evacuation.

Beware of September Storms

We are in the middle of a dry winter, with a dry summer ahead. However, did you know that between 2000 and 2009 during the month of September, there were at least seven severe thunderstorms with damaging hail?

Prepare your yard and gardens

During the spring months, gardens, lawns and trees begin sprouting. Check the height and width of trees on your property. Consider whether you need to trim trees back from roofs. This will prevent leaf debris clogging your gutters and also avoid damage from falling branches during a storm. Call your electricity provider if trees are close to powerlines, or call an arborist to determine if a tree is structurally unsound.
