The 4th MIN-GUIDE Policy Laboratory Workshop, entitled “Innovations and Supporting Policies for Waste Management and Mine Closure”, aims to provide an overview of, and reflect upon, innovation examples in Waste Management and Mine Closure, including tailings management, waste water management and how they are linked to policy in the EU Member States. The Policy Laboratory format, designed by the MIN-GUIDE partners, engages participants from policy, industry, Geological Surveys, and research in an intensive and interactive exchange, which allows the participants to learn, hands-on, from good practice cases, to explore transferability in different contexts, and to reflect upon future policy needs. Finally, the outcome of the 4th Policy Laboratory will contribute to the further development of the Online Minerals Policy Guide. Major Project Milestone achieved – Launch of Version 3.0 of the MIN-GUIDE Minerals Policy Guide! The 3rd MIN-GUIDE Policy Laboratory on the topic of “Innovation and Supporting Policies for Mineral and Metallurgical Processing” attracted 45 participants from all over Europe. The meeting took place on 18-19 May, 2017 in Luleå (Sweden). Non-ferrous Metals Manufacturing: Vision for 2050 and Actions NeededJoint Research Center The JRC's report used a qualitative methodology that engaged various stakeholders. The aim was to define a 2050 vision for the industry. As part of the vision, actions were proposed, focusing on challenges in trade, innovation, resources, business integrity and skills. This publication is a Science for Policy report by JRC, the European Commission's science and knowledge service. Interim evaluation of Horizon 2020European Commission The assessment shows that it is on track to help create jobs and growth, tackle our biggest societal challenges, and improve people's lives. The thematic assessment of Societal Challenge 5, including specific analysis of the raw materials part shows how Horizon 2020 is successfully helping to implement the Raw Materials Initiative and to consolidate a community of public and particularly private stakeholders working on research and innovation on raw materials. Innovation in the lime sectorThe European Lime Association The lime sector has developed a brochure to not only illustrate innovation at the quarry and processing facilities, but also for the enabling role it plays during the use and end of life stage to respond to policy challenges, such as the circular economy and mitigate the process emissions.
