Gateway85 Welcomes Emory Morsberger as New Executive Director

Emory Morsberger took the helm as Executive Director of Gateway85 CID on April 15, 2019.  Emory comes with a long history of involvement in the development, management and growth of community improvement districts in Georgia, including his involvement with the Tucker Summit CID and Lilburn CID, as president.  He was instrumental in forming the Gateway85 CID (formerly Gwinnett Village CID) in 2005, where he also has served on the board of directors. He has a strong vision for the area and will continue to gain momentum with his plan for the future of one of the largest CIDs in Georgia,  Click here for more on Emory and the CID staff.

PROJECT UPDATES AND MORE

  • Jimmy Carter Boulevard Streetscape Improvements - Construction is wrapping up on a streetscape improvement project along Jimmy Carter Boulevard from Rockbridge School Road to S. Norcross Tucker Road.  The project includes seven landscaped areas within the existing concrete median.

  • Beaver Ruin Road Mid-Block Crossing with HAWK Signal - Construction is complete on the Beaver Ruin Road mid-block crossing with HAWK signal.  Required testing will take place the next few weeks and it's expected to be open for use by late May.  The mid-block crossing is being constructed to increase pedestrian safety by offering a more readily available protected place to cross. Gateway85 is working with the Norcross Police Department to help pedestrians learn how to use the mid-block crossing.  Look for more information on those events soon.  Click Here to download HAWK Signal Flyers in English and Spanish.

  • Jimmy Carter Boulevard Lighting District -  In April, the CID Board of Directors approved a lighting district. As part of the lighting district, the CID will install pedestrian and upgraded street lighting on Jimmy Carter Boulevard from Brook Hollow Parkway to Live Oak Parkway. The newly installed lighting will match and complement the style already installed on the bridge, providing an attractive, uniform appearance for the district. The project is expected to be underway by Fall 2019.

GATEWAY DEVELOPMENTS

GATEWAY85 CID HAS THE ONLY 3 OPPORTUNITY ZONES AVAILABLE
IN GWINNETT COUNTY

The Federal Opportunity Zone Program is a new community and economic development tool that aims to drive long-term private investment into low-income communities throughout the country.

The program was established by Congress in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 and encourages investors with recently realized capital gains to invest in local businesses, real estate, or development projects in exchange for a reduction in their tax obligations.

Recently, the Internal Revenue Service released its long-awaited second round of regulations on investing in areas designated as economically distressed under the Federal Opportunity Zone Program, with the new rules providing greater flexibility for leased properties.

For more information on how you can take advantage of Federal Opportunity Zone funding, contact Emory Morsberger, Executive Director at (770) 409-8100 or emory@gateway85.com.

PARTNER ACTIVITIES

Gwinnett County Transit Update - Route 35

Route 35 has a new schedule change that is now in effect. It will depart from the Doraville MARTA Station at 5:30am, and depart from Brook Hollow Parkway at North Norcross at 5:44am. For more information on the Route 35 schedule, visit Gwinnett Transit Routes and Schedules.

Also, over the next few weeks, some Route 35 bus stops will be changed on Technology Parkway in Peachtree Corners.

The City of Peachtree Corners and Sprint are working to create a transportation lab where autonomous vehicles will be tested. As a result, a few Route 35 bus stops will be either relocated or removed.

Route 35 runs in only one direction along this corridor, so these bus stops are on just one side of the road. You can call GCT Customer Service at (770) 822-5010 to learn if your particular bus stop will be changed. To learn more about the Peachtree Corners project, please click here.

GATEWAY ON-THE-GO

Quarry Crusher Run - May 4th

Another Quarry Crusher Run is in the books.  With more than 760 runners, this year was the biggest in the four year history of the Norcross run.  Our friends at Vulcan Materials worked tirelessly to put together an enjoyable experience for the entire community. An added bonus this year was the Georgia Garrison of the 501st Legion...all decked out in their Star Wars gear.  Check out more pics and info about the race here.  Gateway85 CID is proud to have served as the presenting sponsor again this year.  Proceeds benefit Gwinnett County Schools and the Gwinnett County Boys and Girls Clubs.
