MEMS Industry Group Hosts US MEMS Day at Hannover Messe

PITTSBURGH—March 21,2011—MEMS Industry Group (MIG), the trade association advancing MEMS across global markets, will present the US perspective on the MEMS industry on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 as part of Hannover Messe’s MicroNanoTec Conference. In collaboration with IVAM, an international association of companies in microtechnology, nanotechnology and advanced materials, MIG Managing Director Karen Lightman will host the event showcasing MIG members’ keynote presentations, an industry panel discussion and company exhibitions in the IVAM Product Market at MicroNanoTec (Hall 6).

“I am honored to be a part of IVAM’s MicroNanoTec Conference program for a second year in a row. As MIG strives to lead the way in advancing MEMS commercialization across global markets, it is critical that we—along with our members—participate in world-renowned exhibitions such as Hannover Messe.”

As part of IVAM’s Innovation for Industry series, Ms. Lightman will kick off US MEMS Day with “MEMS Market Opportunities and Developments from a US Perspective.” She will discuss the hot markets for MEMS in the US, exploring where demand is today and where it will be tomorrow. Ms. Lightman will address issues affecting the commercialization of MEMS including system - and component-level integration and trends in manufacturing.

Jim Knutti, president and CEO of Acuity Incorporated, a fabless supplier of high-performance MEMS-based pressure sensors, will examine one of the most competitive segments within MEMS: low-pressure MEMS sensors. Dr. Knutti will present “Low-pressure MEMS Sensors: the Next Generation of Accuracy, Stability and Performance.”

David Springer, president of XACTIX, a leading provider of MEMS manufacturing equipment, will present “Highly Selective MEMS Release – A US Perspective.” Dr. Springer will offer an in-depth view of the Xetch® xenon difluoride (XeF2) etching system, which is widely used for releasing MEMS devices.

Patrik Melvas, area sales manager, Europe & Asia with Silex Microsystems AB, will present “Silex Microsystems Inc: A US Perspective.” Dr. Melvas will describe Silex’s role as a MEMS foundry providing manufacturing capacity, advanced process technologies, and proven standard process platforms to a wide range of high-tech companies.

MIG, Acuity and XACTIX will co-exhibit at booth D6 in the MicroNanoTec inside Hall 6 at Hannover Messe. Event attendees who would like to learn more about the US MEMS industry and MIG’s other 100+ international member companies are encouraged to visit the booth during the exhibition week.

MIG will also co-host a bier (and pretzels!) reception with IVAM, to which attendees may invite colleagues and customers. Bier and Pretzels will be held April 5 at 6:00 p.m. in the IVAM Business Lounge (Hall 6, booth number H18) - RSVP here.
