BEAVER RUIN MID-BLOCK CROSSING WITH HAWK SIGNAL NOW ACTIVE
On Tuesday, July 16 we celebrated the activation of the Beaver Ruin Mid-Block Crossing with HAWK Signal.. Community leaders, friends and the media joined us for the event which featured Timothy Jones, a Norcross resident who will use the crosswalk daily.
PROJECT UPDATES AND MORE
WE'RE TRIPLING SIDEWALK INSTALLATION THROUGHOUT THE DISTRICT. HERE'S AN UPDATE:
NEARING COMPLETION:
- A 1000’ sidewalk on Jimmy Carter Boulevard - this sidewalk closes a gap and provides continuous connectivity along the entirety of Jimmy Carter Blvd within the CID boundaries - from Buford Highway to Britt Road.
UNDER CONSTRUCTION:
- Just over 1 mile of sidewalk along Brook Hollow Parkway and Best Friend Road.
COMING SOON:
- Half a mile-long sidewalk along Indian Trail Road that will connect Dickens Road to Steve Reynolds Boulevard.
- Sidewalk along Britt Road from Old Norcross Tucker Road to the County line - construction to begin this fall.
- A 1.1 mile stretch of sidewalk along Dawson Boulevard -construction to begin this fall.
OTHER IMPROVEMENTS:
- We will soon begin Americans With Disabilities (ADA) improvements along Brook Hollow Parkway.
CRIME RATES THE LOWEST IN CID HISTORY
Our efforts to decrease crime in the district have paid off. See the latest stats on targeted crimes (robberies, commercial burglary, and motor vehicle theft) below:
1st Quarter 2019: The lowest quarter on record since the CID began tracking crimes in 2006
1st half 2019:
- Crime is down 20% when compared to 1st half of 2018
- Crime is down 35% when compared to 1st half of 2017. (see graph below)
How have we done it:
- Gateway85 provides security patrol nightly throughout the business district.
- We've installed the first round of FLOCK security cameras in the district and are working with the Westside Precinct to identify other areas for phase 2.
- We've installed security patrol signs throughout the district (see example below)
