“Scaffolding” was published in Opened Ground: Selected Poems 1966–1996​ (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 1999).

 

Seamus Heaney was born in 1939 in Northern Ireland. He authored numerous poetry collections, including Death of a Naturalist (Oxford University Press, 1966) and Human Chain (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 2010). In 1995, he received the Nobel Prize in Literature. He died in Dublin, Ireland, in 2013.
