IEEE-ISTO Board of Directors Confirmed for 2010
At its annual face-to-face Board of Directors meeting, the IEEE-ISTO announced the re-election of two of its Directors. Roger Martin, (interim) executive director, Kantara Initiative, and Don Wright, director of standards, Lexmark International, were both re-elected and have agreed to serve another two-year term.
“I am pleased to welcome back both Roger and Don,” said Gerald T. Lane, chairman of the IEEE-ISTO Board of Directors. “Their leadership has effectively grown the organization over the years, and their participation will continue to position IEEE-ISTO for future expansion.”

IEEE Conformity Assessment Program and Iometrix Announce Launch of IEEE 1588 Based Certification Program
The IEEE Conformity Assessment Program (ICAP) and Iometrix have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on conformity assessment initiatives and activities associated with IEEE standards. The first project under this agreement will be to work together in the development and operation of a certification program focused on assuring conformance to IEEE 1588 for telecommunications applications.
Since its most recent issue in 2008, IEEE 1588 "Standard for a Precision Clock Synchronization Protocol for Networked Measurement and Control Systems" has been implemented on an increasing scale in public and private communications networks, as well as other industrial applications requiring precision timing.

Rudi Schubert, Director ICAP, Appointed to Smart Grid Test and Certification Committee
Rudi Schubert, director, IEEE Conformity Assessment Program (ICAP), has been appointed as a member of the newly formed Smart Grid Test and Certification Committee (SGTCC), a standing committee of the Smart Grid Interoperability Panel (SGIP).
The SGTCC has been tasked to create and maintain the necessary documentation and organizational framework for compliance, interoperability and cyber security testing and certification for SGIP-recommended Smart Grid standards. The SGIP is a public-private partnership operated under the direction of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

Stork Alert - Greg Kohn, Staff Director Operations, and his wife Karen, welcomed a baby girl, Bridget Valentina Kohn on 12 January 2010. Bridget weighed seven pounds eight ounces. Both mom and baby are doing well.
