FOREST FOOTPRINT DISCLOSURE PROJECT
MERGES WITH CDP

A statement from Paul Simpson, CDP’s Chief Executive Officer

I am delighted to announce a new alliance with the Global Canopy Program (GCP) that will see GCP’s Forest Footprint Disclosure Project (FFD) merge with CDP over the next two years.

Bringing forests, which are critically linked to both climate and water security, into the CDP system will result in the world’s most comprehensive natural capital disclosure system and enable companies and investors to rely on one source of primary data for this set of interrelated issues.

Many people ask what has been achieved since the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED), in Rio de Janeiro 20 years ago, or in the ten years that have passed since the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) in Johannesburg.

Recent environmental negotiations have been notable for identifying problematic issues and pledging action without resulting in demonstrable change. Indeed, the latest report from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) states that progress has been made in just four of a possible 90 global environmental goals.

THE POWER OF CITIES

Accelerating to a green economy by CDP’s Head of Cities, Conor Riffle

Around half the world’s population lives in cities. The UN predicts that by 2020 this figure will have swelled to two thirds. A 2011 UN Habitat report found that urbanization and climate change are “converging in ways which threaten to have unprecedented negative impacts on urban quality of life, and economic and social stability”. Is it any wonder then that sustainable cities is a key theme at Rio+20?
