2. Arts Council Launches Major Survey of Irish Harpers

Deadline for submissions Tuesday 8 July

The Arts Council of Ireland has commissioned a major piece of research into the harp and harping in Ireland and is asking all harpers to fill out an online survey. The harp has a particular significance in Ireland, as a national symbol and as a distinctive sound of the country. It has an extraordinarily rich history in Ireland having been played on the island for an estimated one thousand years.

With an increasingly vibrant harp scene, the Arts Council is keen to examine the current state of harping, to identify gaps in provision and explore opportunities for cooperation and development to secure the future of the instrument.

The Arts Council is asking harpers north and south, and of all genres, to fill out the survey and for the public to bring it to the attention of harpers they may know.

To fill out the survey, please visit: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/harpcruit2014

3. Feasibility Study: National Musical Instrument Fund (NMIF)

Deadline for submissions Monday 7 July

Building on its experience of managing the Music Capital Scheme since 2008, Music Network has recently commissioned a feasibility study into the establishment of a National Musical Instrument Fund (NMIF), funded by The Ireland Funds. The study aims to define the level of need for a NMIF, shape its remit and explore potential models for effective delivery.

As part of the consultation process informing the feasibility study, we are inviting anyone with an interest in increased access to musical instruments and equipped rehearsal facilities for bands in Ireland to participate in an online survey. You can access the survey here.

Please note that the survey will remain accessible online up to and including Monday, 7 July.

7. Reminder - Beyond Borders - Call for Proposals

Deadline Thursday 10 July 2014

The Arts Council is partnering with PRS for Music Foundation (UK), Creative Scotland, Arts Council of Wales, and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, on the co-commissioning programme Beyond Borders this year.

Beyond Borders was established in 2010 to support high quality co-commissions, stimulating collaboration between composers, performance groups and music organisations across Ireland and the UK. The programme awards up to £15,000 to co-commissioning and touring projects, including any associated recording costs.

The call for proposals is now live with a deadline of Thursday 10th July 2014. The call is open to any Ireland or UK-based organisations wanting to co-commission or tour new music.
By joining this successful partnership, the Arts Council hopes to broaden the scope and potential impact of the opportunities it currently provides in directly and indirectly supporting the commissioning of new music. The Arts Council aims to generate exciting new opportunities for composers and ensembles and to encourage new linkages between artists, ensembles and other organisations involved in music promotion within and between Ireland, N. Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales.
