d’Arenberg The Footbolt Shiraz, 2014

d’Arenberg The Footbolt Shiraz, 2014

Looking to be a little more frugal now that holiday shopping bills are about to arrive? If you want a treat that won’t break the bank, The Footbolt Shiraz from d’Arenberg is the ideal value wine to grab for the weekend. The Footbolt is named after a prized racehorse that founder Joseph Osborn sold in order to purchase the d’Arenberg property in 1912. Previous vintages of this wine have sold for $19.95, so this special limited purchase is an excellent value. Make like a racehorse and grab a bottle!

Tasting Notes:  This is a rich, full-bodied Shiraz with bold aromas of plum, violets, dried herbs and liquorice. The palate has intense flavours of dark chocolate, blackberry and plum with notes of vanilla and tobacco. Juicy tannins give the wine a balanced structure leading into a long, spicy mineral finish.

Enjoy With:  Lamb chops or savoury beef dishes.

Style:  Full-bodied and smooth red wine.

Terroir/Region:  This McLaren Vale Shiraz perfectly exemplifies why it is a world renowned growing region. The Mediterranean climate paired with the cool ocean breeze leads to some of the most flavourful expressions of Shiraz. All d’Arenberg vineyards are NASAA Certified for organic and biodynamic processes, encouraging strong roots that express the individual characteristics of the terroir.

Producer:   d’Arenberg is a premium wine producer in Australia’s McLaren Vale. It emphasizes the use of minimal intervention in the vineyard and the winery to let the wines truly flourish and express their unique personalities. It uses time honoured techniques such as open fermentation, foot treading and basket pressing to produce consistently high-quality wines.
