Wine of the Weekend

Marqués de Caceres Rosado 2016

Rosé wines are great all year round, but we just can’t get enough of great rosé wines during summer.  Spain is a great source of rosé wine as it is the perfect fit for the local climate and food.  This weekend, grab a bottle of the Marqués de Cáceres Rosado, a jar of olives, grill some Octopus and pretend you are in Spain.

Tasting Notes:  This is a pretty, pale strawberry colour with a fresh bouquet of floral notes and red berries that blend together exquisitely. It’s delicious and refined on the palate with a pleasant fullness and refreshing, luscious flavours that awaken the taste buds.

Enjoy With:  A perfect treat for a picnic, this extremely versatile dry wine pairs well with just about anything!

Style:  Medium-bodied, dry rosé.

Terroir/Region:  Spain’s native Tempranillo grape (Tem-prah-nee-oh) is used to make many of the country’s top red wines like those from Rioja (Ree-oh-ha) and Navarra. The selection of parcels with Tempranillo grapes is located mainly on the fresher slopes in Cenicero and in Rioja Alavesa. The Garnacha comes from high-altitude vineyards in Cenicero. Generally speaking, the vineyards are 15-20 years old with average yields of 45 HL/HA.

Producer:  Founded by Enrique Forner in the early 1970s, Marqués de Cáceres has grown to become one of Rioja’s most awarded and influential wineries. Under the leadership of Cristina Forner, the fifth generation of the family to be involved in the wine trade, Marqués de Cáceres has expanded its international exports to over 130 different countries. Its production and business model focuses on a single objective: creating the highest quality wines.

Availability:  Marqués de Cáceres Rosado 2016 will be available through Vintages beginning this Saturday, July 22 but some stores already have it on shelf.
