Wine of the Weekend

Les Maîtres Vignerons de la Presqu’île de Saint-Tropez Carte Noire Rosé

As Easter approaches and spring warms up, roses start to bud, and rosés start to pop up at the LCBO! This week’s wine is the Carte Noire Rosé from Provence, France, a rosé so good it is available year-round. If you are celebrating with family and friends this weekend, the contoured bottle of the Carte Noire makes it a beautiful pairing for your table as well as your meal.

Tasting Notes: This Grenache-based blend offers aromas of wild strawberry, tangerine and herbs on the nose, while lively flavours of cherry, red berry, grapefruit, and a crisp mineral note accent the palate and carry through the lengthy finish.

Enjoy With: Appetizers, Easter turkey or ham with herb-roasted veggies, anything on the brunch table, seafood dishes, and sunshine.

Style: A medium-bodied, dry rosé.

Terroir/Region: Situated along southern France’s Riviera, the Saint-Tropez peninsula is comprised of a patchwork of vineyards, scrub pine, and wild herbs. Grenache is the dominant grape in the region and benefits from abundant sunshine and relatively cool nights. Cooling sea breezes helps to keep vines healthy and happy while they bask in the Mediterranean sun.

Producer: Almost 90% of the wine produced in Provence is rosé. Historically, this wine was sold and consumed locally by a small, but appreciative audience. In 1964, a group of independent winegrowers from the Saint-Tropez region got together and formed a cooperative which began to make Carte Noire Rosé for export. Today, they reach over 50 different countries around the world.

Availability: Les Maîtres Vignerons de la Presqu’île de Saint-Tropez Carte Noire Rosé is always available in Vintages or in the Rosé section of your local LCBO and is also available for online ordering. Happy long weekend!
