Wine of the Weekend

Barone Ricasoli Brolio Chianti Classico 2014 DOCG Tuscany, Italy

You’ll sometimes see wines that are referred to as ‘textbook’– wines that are near perfect examples of their ilk. By trying these wines, you’ll build a base of benchmarks from where you can explore the world of wine. If you and your friends want to know what a ‘classic’ Chianti Classico tastes like, pick up a bottle of Brolio this weekend and start your adventure.

Tasting Notes:  This classic, yet modern, Sangiovese-based blend delivers complex and attractive aromas of dark cherry, violets, cedar and spice on the nose. Vibrant, juicy flavours of cherry and raspberry are complemented by hints of sandalwood, violets and spice on a medium-bodied palate. This dry, fruity Chianti Classico finishes firm with excellent length and balance.

Enjoy With:  Grilled steak, sausages, gourmet pizza or tomato-based pasta dishes.

Style:  Medium-bodied and fruity red wine.

Terroir/Region:  Chianti Classico is a small area in central Tuscany that includes the villages of Castellina, Gaiole, Radda and Greve. The appellation’s boundaries are very similar to the region laid out by the Grand Duke of Tuscany in 1716. Chianti Classico holds the prestigious DOCG appellation, the top tier of Italian wine classification.

Producer:  The Ricasoli family has been making wine at Castello di Brolio in the heart of the Chianti region since 1141. Sangiovese grapes from the important historical estate were used by Barone Bettino Ricasoli to develop the recipe for Chianti. Castello Brolio is surrounded by 230 hectares of vineyards, making it the largest estate in the Chianti Classico area.

Availability:  Barone Ricasoli Brolio Chianti Classico 2014 will be available through Vintages officially on Saturday, but check stores now as some locations have released the wine early.
