An Easter weekend unlike any other has arrived. There will be food, and wine (of course), and happy moments, but seeing friends and family will have to be put on hold for now. Hopefully the Easter bunny is still coming to your house, and maybe you have planned to Skype or Facetime with loved ones who can’t be there. There is strange comfort knowing that we are all in this together and that is how we will see this through. Now, back to the food and wine! This weekend we will be pouring Cottage Block Sauvignon Blanc Riesling. It will match with all the classic Easter dishes and is a refreshing sip to go along with the (hopefully) sunny weekend!
Tasting Notes: This blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling greets you with aromas of lemon, apple, herbal notes and melon as you pour your glass. The aromas explode onto the palate as bright fruit flavours with lively acidity and a hint of sweetness, striking a perfect balance through the long finish.
Enjoy With: Herb-roasted ham or poultry, oven-roasted veggies, seafood pasta, salads, or spicy Asian noodle dishes.
Style: An easy-drinking, fruity white wine.
Terroir/Region: Cottage Block Sauvignon Blanc/Riesling comes from a special block of vineyards in Niagara-on-the-Lake, originally built as a small cottage community to take advantage of the warming effect Lake Ontario provides the area. Little did the cottagers know that the location of their “Cottage Block” had the potential to grow grapes and make one of Ontario’s favourite wines!
Producer: Cottage Block is made by Strewn Winery, one of the mainstays of the Niagara region. Located just outside Niagara-on-the-Lake, Strewn has become a hub of local traffic while remaining dedicated to producing quality Ontario wines and keeping Ontario’s stories, like the “Cottage Block”, living on.
