Perth to host new ATP Cup in 2020

Perth will host some of the world’s best tennis players as part of the new nation-versus-nation Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Cup teams’ event from January 2020. Joining Sydney and Brisbane, Perth is one of three cities to host the new competition which is set to attract up to 100 of the world’s best male tennis players. The ATP Cup will be second only to the four Grand Slam tournaments and will see the world’s top players compete for 750 highly coveted ATP ranking points and $A22 million in prize money. The ATP Cup will involve players from 24 nations, with the Perth group stages featuring at least two of the top six players in the world, and four of the top 12. RAC Arena will host the Perth event, which will feature 12 sessions played over six days. Due to the ATP Cup taking place in the first week of January, the Hopman Cup would be significantly compromised if it were to be held at the same time. Because of this, the Hopman Cup will no longer be going ahead in Perth. The State Government, through Tourism WA, has secured the ATP Cup for WA for six years. The event holder, Tennis Australia, expects it to attract interstate and international visitors and generate significant global media coverage. For more information, read the Tourism Minister’s media statement.

WA Tourism - ‘Our Story’ workshops continue

Tourism WA held meetings and workshops with tourism operators and professionals in Rottnest, Margaret River and Bunbury this week. The aim of the workshops was to get feedback from industry members on how to define Tourism WA’s unique tourism brand story. The development of this story, a narrative that is owned across the tourism industry in WA, is important because it will help us align and differentiate our marketing. That means, in a crowded marketplace, it will be easier for a visitor to choose WA over one of our competitors. Follow @wa_tourism_our_story on Instagram and read more about the brand story here.
