Here you can experience Australia’s sunniest capital city, whitest beach and largest expanse of outback, one of the oldest known living cultures on Earth, World Heritage reef and rock formations, rainforests and waterfalls, world class surf, premium food and wines, and some of the world’s most unique wildlife.
In recent years WA has experienced a growth in new product in its capital Perth and regional areas and in 2017 will welcome a variety of new products and experiences. Here is a snapshot of new products and travel trends.
Perth city’s ongoing transformation
People are talking about Perth. Foodies, investors, sun-lovers, entrepreneurs, creatives… and it’s no wonder why, with the capital city undergoing a significant period of change. Perth has always offered a beautiful natural environment – the Swan River, blue skies, clean air, 19 metropolitan beaches, one of the world’s largest inner-city parks, and an esteemed wine region – but most recently the attention has turned to the city’s urban offering.
In 2016, Stage One of the city’s new waterfront development, Elizabeth Quay, opened to the public. Home to a number of wining and dining options, pedestrian and cyclists’ bridge, promenades, public art, island playground and event spaces. In 2018, the precinct will welcome the Ritz Carlton, marking the luxury brand’s return to the Australian market for the first time in 10 years.
Disused heritage buildings and laneways are now home to bustling bars and street art. Independent non-profit group FORM have been at the forefront of Perth’s street art scene, organizing to have more than 80 walls across the Perth and its surrounding suburbs have become a canvas for local, interstate and international artists.
Food trucks have also started appearing on the streets, signaling another new trend for the city. Their presence is so popular, it prompted a local foodie and entrepreneur to start what is anticipated to be an annual affair – the Food Truck Rumble. A gathering of some of the city’s best ‘street food’ trucks in the one place.
The city's new heart
Yagan Square is under construction and will be located in the heart of Perth’s CBD – within the arms of the Horseshoe Bridge – and will be one of the city’s most popular community and meeting places. This carefully thought out and designed area will offer a range of experiences – from green spaces for relaxation and play, to permanent markets offering local produce, kiosks, cafes, interactive digital media, native gardens and engaging public art. At night, the square will come alive with a spectacular lighting installation on the underside of the shade canopies and the iconic digital tower. The square will open in 2017, hosting regular events, performances and celebrations across its various event spaces.
