Carl Sandburg was born in Galesburg, Illinois, on January 6, 1878. His poetry collections include Harvest Poems (Harcourt, Brace, 1950), Cornhuskers (Henry Holt, 1918), and Chicago Poems (Henry Holt, 1916). He died on July 22, 1967, in Flat Rock, North Carolina.
