Château de la Pierre Levée Revelations d'Hubert de Bouard, Bordeaux 2016

Collaborations can produce amazing results. Queen and David Bowie came together to make ‘Under Pressure’, Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro collaborated to create Goodfellas (and many other films), and a guy named Ben and another named Jerry decided to make ice cream together. This week, we feature a collaboration from the wine world. In the Château de la Pierre Levée Revelations d’Hubert de Bouard 2016 Bordeaux, the iconic wine traders at Yvon Mau came together with famed winemaker Hubert Bouard. Together they were able to create a well-priced and very drinkable Bordeaux that will have your taste buds and your brain collaborating to pour another glass.

Tasting Notes: Château de la Pierre Levée Revelations Bordeaux is a classic ‘Right Bank’ Bordeaux blend of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Together these grapes create flavours of plum and red berries, and with a little oak aging, vanilla, spice, and toasted wood notes come into play.

Enjoy With: Roast pork or turkey, as well as cheddar cheeses. Duck breast is a classic pairing for this Bordeaux, but it is also a delightful sip on its own.

Style: A dry, medium-bodied red wine, plump and juicy.

Terroir/Region: The famed region of Bordeaux lies on the Atlantic coast of France and is most famous for growing three red grapes to use in their blends: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. The Gironde river is the main feature of the Bordeaux region, and the soil types on both river banks have been so well mapped through the years that the right grape has been matched to the right soil for nearly the entire region. Nothing like a few hundred years of trial and error!

Producer: Yvon Mau has over a century’s worth of expertise in the wine business with the family’s trading company being established in 1897. Château de la Pierre Levée Revelations Bordeaux is named after the town of Pierre Levée and the ancient stones (dolmens) found in the Château’s vineyards (and on its labels)!

Availability: Château de la Pierre Levée Revelations d’Hubert de Bouard 2016 Bordeaux will be available online and in the Vintages section of your local LCBO on Saturday, September 14, but a few stores may already have it on the shelf. Pick up a bottle to see the value in collaboration!
