Even if the thermometer does not always agree, spring is in the air. The days are getting longer, the sun is out a bit more often, and some ambitious Canadians are starting to wear shorts. This week’s wine brings you spring in a bottle, the only difference being that you will want to drink Freixenet Mia White chilled. Spring can be as warm as it wants to be.
Tasting Notes: Mia is a blend of Macabeo, Parellada, Moscatel and Xarello, all local Spanish grapes that burst from the glass with aromas and flavours. Ripe peach, nectarine and light mineral notes will charm your senses.
Enjoy With: Salads, seafood and chicken, as well as spicy foods like curries making Mia a very versatile food wine. It’s a charmer, and easily enjoyed on its own too.
Style: An off-dry, aromatic, fruity white.
Terroir/Region: Freixenet is based around the region of Penedès, southwest of Barcelona, Spain. It’s a landscape of rolling hills, protected from easterly winds by the Garraf Massif and from cold northern breezes by the craggy Montserrat Mountain.
Producer: Although Freixenet is most famous for producing Spanish sparkling wine called Cava, Mia, Spanish for “Mine”, is made in partnership with winemaker Gloria Collell. Freixenet has helped Gloria take grapes which Spain has cultivated for centuries and match them with modern winemaking techniques, letting her achieve her dream of creating a quality, easy-drinking wine that can be enjoyed by everyone.
