Breathe Deep 2015 Highlights

The Breathe Deep events program experienced its biggest season yet in 2015. Tens of thousands joined LUNGevity to walk, run, and raise awareness and funds for critical lung cancer research. We added events in 12 new cities, as well as the first-ever Virtual Walk, engaging more people in fundraising efforts that have a direct impact on research funding.

We’re also extremely grateful to the more than 1,260 Breathe Deep volunteers who help drive the mission of LUNGevity year-round!

Now Accepting Applications for 2016 Career Development Awards for Translational Research

LUNGevity is currently accepting applications for the 2016 Career Development Awards for Translational Research. The program supports up-and-coming scientific leaders who are contributing innovative ideas and groundbreaking work in lung cancer research. Projects by previous awardees include how to detect lung cancer earlier, how to make immunotherapy work better, and overcoming drug resistance, among other exciting topics.

Exciting Progress in Blood-Based Biomarker Tests for the Early Detection of Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

One of the key goals of LUNGevity’s research program is to drive innovation in early detection technology that can catch the cancer at a stage when it is most treatable. With LUNGevity funding, York Miller, MD, and his colleagues have developed simple protein-based blood tests for detecting lung cancer early. The test does not require a biopsy and can tell doctors if the person has squamous cell lung cancer. Read more about this exciting new technology here.

SU2C Lung Cancer Dream Team Launches New Website for Patients with KRAS Mutation

LUNGevity President Andrea Ferris, a patient advocate on the first-ever Stand Up to Cancer (SU2C) Lung Cancer Dream Team, helped create and launch the team’s website to address the needs of patients with KRAS-mutant lung cancer. The website is a patient-friendly resource that will provide updates on the team’s progress and inform patients of open clinical trials.
