WA Regional Tourism Conference host town announced

Organisers of the WA Tourism Conference, which is supported by Tourism WA, have announced the 2019 event will be held in Karratha, from September 16 to 18. Following a competitive tender process, the City of Karratha was awarded the event in recognition of its significant commitment to growing the region’s tourism capacity and offering.  To assist tourism businesses from across WA to attend the event, the City of Karratha is offering a subsidy for those who will be flying or driving long distances. Discover Aboriginal Experiences welcomes Cape Cultural Tours

Cape Cultural Tours has joined the Discover Aboriginal Experiences (DAE), part of Tourism Australia’s Signature Experiences of Australia program that promotes outstanding tourism experiences within a variety of special categories. Josh Whiteland, of Cape Cultural Tours, guides visitors through Aboriginal interpretive experiences in the Margaret River Region. Cape Cultural Tours is supported through the Aboriginal Tourism Development Program (ATDP), which aims to raise the standard of product delivery and promotion of Aboriginal tourism in regional WA. The ATDP is managed by Tourism WA, through State Government funding provided to the Western Australian Indigenous Tourism Operators Council (WAITOC).

 

Japanese ITO delegation and forum a success

Tourism WA this week hosted key Japanese inbound tourism operators (ITO) in Perth, as part of a marketing strategy to support the upcoming direct Tokyo flights with All Nippon Airways. During their visit, the ITO partners toured Perth city and visited Scarborough, Kings Park, the Swan Valley and other destinations in the Perth region. They also took part in a Japanese-focused industry forum, which was attended by more than 60 WA tourism operators. The event aimed to educate industry on expectations of the Japanese market and how operators can work with industry to increase awareness and receive bookings.

 

Rottnest Island and Fremantle feature in NZ media

Tourism WA has secured media coverage in New Zealand as a result of a hosted media visit to support the opening of Optus Stadium in early 2018. David Skipwith visited Perth last March to cover the NRL double header, which included the NZ Warriors, shining the spotlight on Perth and Optus Stadium. The itinerary aimed to showcase a new side to Perth and included activities to entice Kiwis to stay longer. David’s visit to Rottnest Island and Fremantle is the latest article to be published in the NZ Herald’s Travel section, with an audience of 117,000 people. Read it here.

 

WA on show at Flight Centre expos over east

Tourism WA participated at Flight Centre Travel expos held in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane throughout February, which attracted about 70,000 attendees. Tourism WA was the only state tourism organisation to exhibit at the expos, and received many enquiries about Perth and its regions, including the Kimberley, South West, Exmouth, Esperance, Wave Rock, Kalgoorlie and the Nullarbor Drive.

 

City of Perth Arts and Event Grants on offer

The City of Perth is calling for applications for its first round of Arts and Events funding for 2019-20. Applications for the Arts Grants 2019-20 – Round 1 (for events and projects held between August 1, 2019 and January 31, 2020), closes on February 19 at 4pm. Applications for the Event Grants 2019-20 – Round 1 (for events held between August 1, 2019 and January 31, 2020) close on February 26 at 4pm. Grants are offered in two categories – under $15,000 and $15,001-$40,000. Program guidelines are available on the City of Perth website. Contact the City of Perth for more information.

 

Position available at AMaGA

Australian Museums and Galleries Association (AMaGA) Western Australia is looking for a professional development coordinator to deliver its professional skills program. The successful applicant will offer training and advice on digitisation, how to use the Collections WA digital collections platform, and develop an extensive map of WA’s cultural organisations. Australian Museums and Galleries Association WA is the peak advocacy body representing cultural and creative collecting organisations. Wine export and tourism workshops on offer in March

Wine Australia has released its schedule of export and tourism workshops to help new and experienced wine businesses grow their exports and wine tourism. The workshops start in March and are delivered face-to-face and online. The ‘Growing Wine Exports’ and ‘Growing Wine Tourism’ programs aim to equip wine businesses with the tools, case studies and market insights to capture export and tourism opportunities. The Growing Wine Exports program is delivered by Wine Australia in partnership with Hydra Consulting. Online learning materials have also been developed for those unable to attend a face-to-face workshop in their region. The Growing Wine Tourism program is delivered by Wine Australia in partnership with the Australian Tourism Export Council. Both programs are funded by the Australian Government’s $50 million Export and Regional Wine Support Package, which is driving bigger and bolder engagement to raise the profile of Australian wine, capture market opportunities and drive export and tourism growth. Tourism Council WA has announced its new workshop schedule for the first half of 2019, featuring a range of refreshed workshops for your tourism business. The updated workshops will be visiting a range of destinations in the first half of 2019, including Broome, Denmark, Kununurra, Margaret River and Perth. Following more than 20 successful years of recognising high-quality tourism businesses, the Australian Tourism Accreditation Program will be re-branded to better promote your business. The new Quality Tourism Framework will combine multiple tourism accreditation, business development and awards programs into a single, user-friendly online tool to develop your business and grow your market, paired with new, modern branding to promote your status as a Quality Tourism Accredited Business. Young ATEC WA tour and networking event at QT Perth

February 28: Join Young ATEC WA at its Thirsty Thursday event being held at QT Perth. Take an interactive behind-the-scenes tour with the QT Perth team, as they talk through the process of opening a new hotel. International Women’s Day breakfast on eco-tourism

March 8: Members of the tourism industry are invited to hear Amy Carter-James, a world leader on sustainable tourism, speak at an International Women’s Day breakfast being held from 7am to 8.30am at the Wembley Golf Course. The breakfast is open to both men and women. Amy will describe how she established the 20-room Guludo Beach eco-lodge in Mozambique, together with the associated NEMA Foundation. March 12: Tourism Council WA is continuing its series of Network@Night industry networking functions in Perth. Register for Cruise Ready workshop in Busselton

March 19: Tourism WA will be supporting a Cruise Ready Workshop at the Busselton Visitor Centre, from 5.15pm to 7pm, to coincide with the scheduled cruise ship call by Cunard’s superliner Queen Elizabeth to Busselton the following day. Claire Nuthall, representing Abercrombie & Kent Australia’s cruise shipping division, will provide insights into successfully servicing the cruise market, covering a range of topics including meeting cruise line/passenger expectations, how cruise lines work in regards to shore excursions and optimising business and community benefits.
