Just because you’re gluten intolerant doesn’t mean you have to live without our delicious deli sandwiches! Did you know that you can request gluten-free bread for your sandwich? For an extra $1.50 per sandwich, we will be happy to use gluten-free panini bread from Natural Food Works in Davis. This delicious bread is made using whole-grain brown rice, freshly milled at a dedicated gluten-free facility; free range eggs from small, local family farms; and locally sourced olive oil—baked in small batches and hand-packaged. We were looking for just the right bread to complement our sandwich ingredients, and we’re happy we found it!

Gluten-Free Eating

More than a diet craze, gluten-free eating is mainstream among those looking to improve their health. The protein in wheat, called gluten, can wreak havoc for people suffering from celiac disease, a serious and debilitating inflammatory condition of the intestines. While very few people have true celiac disease (less than one percent of the population), more may suffer from less severe intestinal troubles, such as gas and bloating, that may possibly be triggered by gluten. Called “gluten sensitivity” and difficult to diagnose medically, relief of symptoms may occur by omitting sources of gluten in the diet*.
