One month to go!

Gemma Donnelly

It’s all hands on deck at Braywick Court School as the team makes the final preparations to welcome our inaugural Reception class on 2nd September: the large ‘Phase One’ area of the former Winbury Preparatory School building in Hibbert Road is undergoing refurbishment, books and learning resources have been delivered and the plans for ‘Phase Two’ of the development, to incorporate the existing Braywick Nature Centre building, are being finalised.

Teddy Bears' Picnic

Teddy Bears' Picnic

The Teddy Bears' Picnic, held last Saturday, was a huge success. The sun shone and our Squirrel class children took part in lots of free play activities including a squirrel treasure hunt and making teddy bears' ears. Teacher-led activities also included singing teddy bear themed songs in the teepee, parachute games and story time, plus an innovation of the 'Where's My Teddy?' story acted out by the staff.

It was lovely to see the mums, dads, brothers and sisters interacting and all the children starting school in September went home having made some new friends.

Braywick Bear enjoyed meeting his new teddy bear friends too!

Site plans

We enjoyed meeting parents, local residents and other members of the local community at the public consultation held earlier this month. This was an opportunity to listen to the views of the local community and then take these into account prior to submitting the plans to the council.

Plans for 'Phase Two' of the development include a new building that would connect the existing Braywick Nature Centre to the Winbury School buildings, creating one much larger structure. The proposed accommodation includes a large purpose-built hall and seven spacious classrooms, the majority of which open directly onto external teaching spaces. A new pathway is planned to run between the proposed parents’ car park in Braywick Sports Ground though the nature reserve as part of the school’s ‘Park and Stride’ scheme.

All comments have been taken on board and we are now finalising the plans. We hope that the redevelopment works can commence after Christmas, subject to planning approval.

The school will occupy the ‘Phase One’ area of the site for the duration of the first academic year which will provide a spacious, flexible, open plan learning environment with state-of-the-art facilities from September.
