Information Session - Lessons From a Serious IncidentOver a thousand members of staff have participated in a series of sessions presented by the HSW Director to hear about the implications and safety lessons for the University from a serious incident that occurred at the piggery in 2019. If you missed out on attending one of these sessions, click HERE to access the recording and accompanying slides. One significant lesson from this incident was that it is critically important for all staff and students to report safety issues, no matter how small they might seem at the time. A simple safety report could prevent a major injury down the track. If you have anything to do with radioactive materials, it's a good idea to periodically refresh your memory of the disposal requirements as set out in Appendix F of the Radiation Safety Management HSW Handbook Chapter to prevent any mistakes when handling or disposing of radioactive material. The Radiation Safety Management page (accessible here) provides all the information and resources you need. Below: A PET scanner in use at a hospital. Guidance for First Aiders at the UniversityThe register of all staff, who are trained as first aiders by the University, is maintained by the HSW Central Team in HR. There register is located on our webpage here. The information for this register is gathered from two sources:
It is vital that this information is up to date and first aiders should maintain the accuracy of both otherwise the first aid register will be inaccurate. If staff were required to be first aid trained in a previous role, but are no longer required, they should delete their first aid training information from their SSO Profile. When viewing your first aid certificate details on SSO there is a delete button at the bottom of the page. First Aiders who have moved because of OSP should update their building, floor and office location information in the University Phone Directory. The online internal telephone directory is updated daily and is maintained by Ask Adelaide. Got a safety story suggestion for HSW Connect? Let us know at hswteam@adelaide.edu.au! |
