The 50th anniversary of Mental Health Week is fast approaching and this year it is going to bigger and better than ever!
There's over 60 events happening all over WA - click here to find one near you - and lots of ways for you or your organisation to get involved in raising awareness and breaking down barriers to good mental health. Find out more at the website.

STAND UP FOR MENTAL HEALTH AT 'STAND UP! FOR COMEDY'

The WA Association for Mental Health and the Perth Theatre Trust have joined again to bring you the funniest night of the year and the closing act of 2017 Mental Health Week, Stand Up! For Comedy.

To be held at the State Theatre on 14 October, part proceeds on the event will go back into community mental health in WA. So what are you waiting for? Tickets sell fast and last year was a sell out, so BOOK NOW!

HOW TO NURTURE RESILIENCE IN OUR CHILDREN

This FREE evening forum for parents, to be held at Perth College, Mount Lawley on Tuesday, October 10, will highlight the important quality of resilience – how to nurture and encourage it in our children in today's busy world.  Speakers will include:

Dr Helen Street - Social psychologist and educator
Dr Street's work has been met with international acclaim and has been endorsed by His Holiness the Dalai Lama and ‘Blue Eyes / Brown Eyes’ creator Jane Elliott. She was the show psychologist for Network Ten’s The Circle and is one of the original creators of the National Australian Positive Schools Initiative.

Ashlee Harrison - CEO of zero2hero
zero2hero provides innovative school-based programs for children and young people that develop their understanding of mental health issues and awareness of mental health services. The organisation reaches more than 5,000 students across 30+ WA schools annually.

WORKPLACE WELLBEING SEMINAR

Join us for a free lunchhour seminar in the CBD on October 11. Building on its huge popularity over the past four years, this annual mental health event attracts around 150 CEOs, managers, OSH and HR professionals. This year you'll hear from:

  • Godfrey Barone - CEO, Mates in Construction, talking about suicide prevention in the workplace
  • Dr Sue Bahn - Director of AllOfMe, talking about improving mental health using familiar technologies and tools.  Sue will also launch a report from Edith Cowan University on the successes so far
  • Jason Nelson - Sirens of Silence Charity, talking in support of those professions and jobs vulnerable to PTSD, anxiety and depression – what happens and hope for the future

There is not cost, however registration is required for numbers.

JOIN US AT FORREST PLACE ON WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY, OCT10!

Tuesday, October 10 is World Mental Health Day, with people all around the globe gathering to reduce stigma and talk about how they are going. 

Set in Perth CBD's busiest shopping mall, there will be an annual awareness stall, connecting thousands of people with a range of community mental health services. 

  • Help create a community canvas and painting activities for the young at heart.
  • Coffee van, courtesy of ‘Strong Spirit Strong Mind’, with free wi-fi and bean bags to chill out

MENTAL HEALTH WEEK GRANT RECIPIENTS ANNOUNCED!

The 2017 Mental Health Week grant recipients have been announced! Congratulations to the 33 community groups who have received funding towards their event, including the 21 groups in WA's regions! FIND OUT MORE HERE.

FAMILY FUN DAY & KIDS' MOVIE NIGHT - KALGOORLIE

Living in the Kal-Boulder area? Perhaps looking for a roadtrip excuse from Perth?! Join us for a FREE Family Fun Day at Centennial Park in Kalgoorlie to celebrate the official opening of 2017 Mental Health Week! It is on Saturday, October 7 from 2pm, with a kids' movie night from 7pm. With ABC's Nathan Morris as MC, there will be live music, food stalls, entertainment and free giveaways! This event will be targeted at youth however all community members are welcome. It is a smoke-free, drug-free and alcohol-free event.
