Hey Book Nerds,

Any book lover knows the hermit life well: days spent in your room with a stack of books, ten bags of tortilla chips, and a stick of deodorant that your mother has repeatedly encouraged you to use (you know who you are). But every so often, it’s nice to get out and meet other book readers, and maybe even your favorite authors! Just make sure you shower first...

Reading Groups
I know what you’re going to say, but this is NOT your mother’s book club (your mother’s book club has pretty great snacks, actually). Reading.meetup.com has excellent groups that are specific to genre, as well as general silent reading groups. Put in your zip code, and you’ll find tons of friendly readers nearby!

Book Tours
Sometimes the stars align and you get to be in the same room with your favorite author and about a hundred people who like the same books as you do.  Barnes and Noble makes it pretty easy to keep up on book signings and other events, or ask around at your local book store!

Online Hangouts
Sometimes, you can let the book party come to you! Savvy authors often schedule online events. For instance, Randall Munroe of xkcd is having an online hangout this Friday to talk about his new book, What If?

So get out there and make some book friends! Don’t worry, Frederator Books will still be here when you get back. And remember to enter our Tumblr contest for a chance to win awesome Catbug and Bravest Warriors prizes!

See you at the bookstore,
