SPARCS Replication Strategy Webinar

In 2021, SPARCS will organise a series of webinars on topics related to sustainable energy positive and zero carbon communities.

To begin with, we are excited to invite you to participate in the SPARCS first webinar, where we will introduce and explain the SPARCS Replication strategy. SPARCS is a Horizon 2020 project with a Lighthouse & Fellow City structure and therefore replication is a very important aspect within the project. In the webinar, the replication leaders Fraunhofer IAO & Bable will explain how Fellow Cities Reykjavik, Kladno, Kifissia, Maia and Lviv are taken through the City Lab & Project Development process to co-create smart city solutions, how the smart city training gives the opportunity to city representatives to gain further knowledge on transformation towards a smart city and how Lighthouse & Fellow Cities exchange knowledge through workshops & webinars. Apart from the task leaders, city representatives will share their experiences and lessons learned for smart city transformation. Throughout the webinar, there will be plenty of room for discussion & questions.

Tentative agenda:

  • City Lab replication method: Towards an Implementation plan
  • Reykjavik & Maia Experiences
  • Interoperable Solutions, Smart city Training & Project Development
  • Workshops & Webinar outlook

You are also invited to save the date for the next SPARCS webinars:

  • April 2021 - SPARCS Business Models and Financing Mechanisms
  • June 2021 - SPARCS KPIs for Replication
  • September 2021 - SPARCS City Vision

We look forward to seeing you at our first webinar on 21 January!

PED Solution Booklet published by SCIS

PEDs are gaining importance, both as urban innovation labs and as concrete, on-the-ground projects for creating future proof, energy-positive and climate-neutral urban living environments.

This PEDs solution booklet is a summary of the management framework, primarily written for cities. It seeks to reduce the effort, speed up the process, strengthen quality and confidence in outputs, align across disciplines, and generally prepare a city to engage the market to acquire a solution specifically in the area of PEDs.

SPARCS has been an active part in the development of this solution booklet.

Kladno won an award at a prestigious Smart City competition

The city of Kladno proposed two of its projects in a competition called Smart Cities for the Future 2020. An Energy Positive District model (PED) designed within the international SPARCS project was the first one, and realization of the Smart City platform INVIPO was another one. It was the Smart City platform, which operates with the data from various urban systems, that won in its category.

The results of the competition were officially announced on 11 December 2020. More than 180 projects from all over the country took part in the competition. The city of Kladno won with the Smart City in the category of cities with more than 50,000 inhabitants.

Maia City Vision 2050

As part of the SPARCS City Vision 2050 project, a two-day workshop was held from Maia on the 24th and 25th of November in remote mode, with the aim of co-creating a desired vision of the city of Maia for 2050 among the community of citizens and other stakeholders. The workshop was organized by an internal multidisciplinary technical team, accompanied by the Portuguese SPARCS partners SPI - Portuguese Society of Innovation and NEW R&D, joined by INEGI - Institute of Science and Innovation in Engineering and AdEPorto - Porto Energy Agency. A group of experts was also invited to participate in the previously defined strategic work areas: Urban Development, Energy Transition, Mobility, Smart and Sustainable City and Integrated and Inclusive City. This event was fortunate to have a wide range of key local actors and citizens deeply committed to collaborating in achieving the goals for this SPARCS initiative.
