WELCOME to my March 2016 newsletter. I have been spending the past few months working on my new short film ‘To The Grave’ which we have been shooting in and around London.
I recently played the role of Claire in a short film called ‘To The Grave’ written by Marcus Lloyd and directed by Esther Hegarty who describes the film as follows: “After the death of her mother, whilst clearing out the house, Claire Jameson is propelled on a journey to uncover a dark family secret when she makes a shocking discovery. ‘To the Grave’ is a tale of family secrets and fractured relationships. Flashing back to the 1970’s, the audience are invited to play detective with Claire as she seeks to uncover her distant mother’s past.”

As Executive Producer for St. Catherine Productions Ltd, I have visited the Berlinale Film Festival and the EFM this year and had some very productive meetings. I was also honoured to attend the premier of “Shepherds & Butchers” produced by Anant Singh and Brian Cox and starring Steve Coogan.

Having trained at Rada as a stage manager I moved into film and television, and under the encouragement of my mentor, Richard Attenborough, I started directing my own short films including Hero, for which I won Best Director at the 48 Hour Film Project in London 2009, out of 22 directors in competition. In 2011 I wan one of 20 places on the WFTV Mentoring Scheme, out of 200 applicants. There, I was mentored by Bafta winner Carol Wiseman and met fellow mentee Rebecca Long, Producer of Miriam. As part of the scheme, I shot my film David. Miriam is currently in the festival circuit. “Having cast Jane in “Miriam”, Esther is delighted to be in pre-production with “To the Grave”, a short film starring Jane in which a young woman discovers a dark family secret after the death of her mother. Other credits include producing and directing “One Singular Sensation”, a short documentary on the career of Richard Attenborough for Bafta, the BFI and Channel 4. I am passionate about films which make the audience think as well as entertain. A running theme through my work is perceptions of reality; I’m fascinated by perspective and its distortion of events. I am currently developing my first feature film.
I am delighted that Richard Syms is appearing in my new short film ‘To The Grave.’ Richard Syms has extensive experience in theatre, television and film. His film credits include Nowhere Boy, Gangs of New York, The Iron Lady, Secrets and Lies, The Duchess, Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass, and Far From the Madding Crowd. On stage he has performed at the National Theatre, the Donmar Warehouse and the Manchester Royal Exchange amongst others, and his many television appearances include The Musketeers, Midsomer Murders, Foyle's War, Bad Girls, and The Tunnel 2. He recently filmed Taboo for Scott Free Productions which will premiere this year on BBC1 in the UK and FX in the US.
