Learning about Lorna

Our international plenary speaker Lorna Harries will be presenting at the Science on the Swan 2019 Conference. Lorna is an Professor in Molecular Genetics at the University of Exeter College of Medicine and Health. Her work ranges from 'big data' approaches to detailed individual molecular analysis of particular genes.

Learn from Lorna at the Conference along with our other international and national experts within the health industry.

Discover more about Lorna:

-  What are you currently excited about within your field?
I think we are at the start of a paradigm shift in how we treat age-related disease. Targeting not the specifics of each disease, but the underpinning common molecular causes raises the possibility of a new generation of anti-degenerative drugs that can target many diseases of ageing simultaneously

- Why should attendees be at your session?
Attendees will hear work at the cutting edge of my field. It’s an opportunity to hear the latest progress  as it happens.

- What is the latest research/technique or challenge within your field?
Over the past 5 years, the critical role of senescent cells in ageing process has become recognised, but it is still a developing field. Our challenge is now to identify the cellular and molecular processes that underpin this phenomenon so that we may better target it in the future.

- What is your one travel essential when flying?
My Kindle. I love to read and a long flight provides a rare opportunity to read relatively undisturbed.

- What are you excited to see whilst in Perth?
I’m excited to visit Australia! I have never been before and I want to see everything!
