Members of the Teaching and Learning in the International Classroom (TLIC) SIG
met in October at Aarhus University to share the results from research and projects focused on the need for the development and implementation of teacher training activities in relation to internationalisation.
At the meeting, Karen Lauridsen reported on the final report of the IntlUni project, a large scale, 3-year (2012-2015) ERASMUS project comprised of 38 university partners (including 4 Danish universities – RUC, SDU, UCPH & AU) across 27 countries. The project addressed the challenges and opportunities in the multilingual and multicultural learning space. The
IntlUni final report
paints a broad picture of the TLIC across Europe and provides recommendations for how higher education institutions may develop and implement quality teaching and learning in this space. One of IntlUni’s most important recommendations focused on the need for more teacher training (and cooperation between teaching and language units).
In response to this call for increased focus on teacher training for TILC, representatives from both AU and UCPH are involved in a new ERASMUS+ project (2016-2018) entitled “Educational Quality at Universities for inclusive international Programs”. The EQUiiP project will build modules for the use of educational developers and teacher trainers working with university teaching staff in internationalized programmes. The project kicked off with a meeting at
Glasgow Caledonian University in October. In addition to the two Danish universities, the project partners are the University of Bordeaux, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, the University of Freiburg, Glasgow Caledonian University, and the University of Groningen. The TLIC-SIG intends to hold a workshop at DUNK2017 to highlight the work of this project and localize a module to fit the Danish context.
The next SIG meeting is scheduled to take place in May at DUNK 2017. Anyone interested in joining the discussion related to the multilingual, multicultural learning space is welcome to join.
