Stephanie Meredith, the Medical Outreach Director at the University of Kentucky's National Center for Prenatal and Postnatal Resources, will be speaking alongside colleagues at the NSGC Annual Education Conference session "Challenges of Prenatal Cell-free DNA Screening from the Patient Advocacy Perspective" in Seattle on Saturday, October 1 from 10:15am-11:45am.
We will also be performing and giving away free materials at the Genetic Support Foundation Fundraiser and Talent Show at 8pm on Friday evening at Town Hall Seattle (Downstairs at Town Hall, 1119 Eighth Avenue at Seneca Street). Come join us to support another great organization that offers educational resources to patients and providers!
The upcoming NSGC session reflects the issues raised in our article recently published in Prenatal Diagnosis, "Impact of the increased adoption of prenatal cfDNA screening on non-profit patient advocacy organizations in the United States" (fee-based journal). The article shares the challenges patient advocacy groups face in the wake of expanded prenatal screening. The article summarizes the themes raised by a panel of patient advocacy group (PAG) representatives at a stakeholder symposium held in conjunction with the 2015 annual meeting of the International Society for Prenatal Diagnosis in Washington DC.
In the past year, we have released our Down syndrome materials in eight different languages (English, Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese, Russian, Somali, and Korean) all available in print and a free web app, and we also recently released new online and print resources about Turner syndrome. Come visit us at our NSGC session or the Genetic Support Foundation Fundraiser and Talent Show to get free samples, and you can check out our website to see what's new!
