4. A new post-study immigration route announced

Prime Minister's Office, 10 Downing Street

Maddalaine Ansell, Director Education Policy Unit, British Council said:

"The British Council strongly welcomes today’s announcement of a new immigration route that will give international students more time to find skilled work after they graduate.  We have long recognised the enormous economic and socio-cultural benefits that international students bring to the UK.

British Council response to Post-Study Work Visa announcement

This new immigration route will also support the UK's ambitions to increase the number of international students studying in the UK each year to 600,000 by 2030.

There is nothing more powerful in cultural relations than people from around the world coming to work and study in the UK.  They return home with positive attitudes towards the UK and are more likely to visit us, trade with us and, if they end up in positions of power, support us in the international arena".

The British Council and IATEFL web conference will provide teachers and teacher educators young and old with an opportunity to celebrate their work, develop their skills and share ideas with colleagues around the world by attending presentations by experts on an extensive range of key issues in the teaching profession, all without the restrictive financial and damaging environmental costs of travelling to a face-to-face event.

Join IATEFL and British Council on Saturday 5 October to celebrate World Teachers Day with a full day of talks and workshops on a wide range of topics and issues facing teachers today

The web conference is free and will feature four 1-hour plenaries and twelve 45-minute presentations, each one looking at an important aspect of teaching, teacher education and the teaching profession.

Further details with links to attend the presentations will be sent by email to participants who register via Eventbrite 48 hours before the event. Direct links to attend the sessions will be available on TeachingEnglish and the web conference website 48 hours prior to the event.

  • Test results issued in five to seven days from the test day (down from the present 13 days)
