We can't wait for you to join us at EIU on Move In Day!

Before then, please take a look at this assignment guide to help you prepare to come to campus! This guide has information about what you can check off your list this summer, what to plan for in August, and helpful resources to make Move In Day a breeze. Also, please be on the lookout for more information about Move In Day later this summer.

We can't wait to meet you in August and look forward to hearing about how EIU has become your home away from home.

Single Occupancy Grant

EIU is offering up to $1,700 to students who wish to have a double room as a single room for the Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 semesters. You must live in an EIU residence hall during Fall 2021/Spring 2022 to qualify. If you are assigned to a Double as a Single room and have applied for the grant, we will send a confirmation email after July 15 to your EIU email address.

If you have not yet applied for this grant, but still wish to have a Double as Single room, you have until July 15 to submit your application! For more information and to apply for this grant, go to: eiu.edu/housing/Updates.php.

Summer To Do List

Pay your housing down payment.
The down payment of $100 can be paid through the MyEIU Portal or your PAWS account. Your payment deadline can be found in your assignment letter. If you have questions contact us at housing@eiu.edu or 217-581-5111.

Contact your new roommate.
Good communication between you and your new roommate is the key to a successful year. Just like you are getting to know your new campus, it is important to get to know the person you're going to be living with. Your roommate's email address, mailing address and phone number are included in the room assignment letter.

Start a shopping and packing list.
We want to make sure you have everything you need for a successful year! As you plan, please take a look at our list of things to bring and things not to bring on Move In Day.

Learn more about your meal plan and new community.
In order to avoid information overload, we encourage students to start researching their new campus community and learn about how their meal plan works. We know there is a lot to plan for, so getting started now can help!

Connect with campus.
We encourage you to connect with Housing and Dining, and your new residence hall on social media to stay updated throughout the year.

Consider renter insurance or personal property insurance.
Contact your insurance provider to see if you're already covered. Eastern Illinois University and University Housing & Dining Services assume no responsibility for theft or damage to personal property, or loss of money, valuables, or personal effects of any student or guest.

Plan for Move In Day!
More information about Move In Day is available on our Move In Day page! You can learn more about what kind of computer to bring, how to connect to the internet, setting up your room, furniture that is available, and more. We can't wait to see you on campus in August!

All students will need to sign up for a move-in date and time. Freshmen and Transfer students will be able to move in on August 18 or 19, and returning students will be able to move in on August 20, 21 or 22. More information about how to sign up will be coming soon – watch your EIU Email and our website for updates.

COVID-19 Guideline

Our students’ well-being is our priority at EIU. Please continue to monitor this page for updates on COVID-19 information and guidelines at EIU: eiu.edu/covid.

Support RHA during Move In

Eastern’s Residence Hall Association (RHA), a student organization that strives to build community and develop leaders in the residence halls, has teamed up with Residence Hall Linens to provide goods and services for the upcoming academic year.  Outfit your new place from top to bottom, the perfect online, one-stop-shop for bedding, bath supplies, decor and countless other accessories.

Place your orders before July 31 to guarantee delivery before move-in day.

Housing Assignments: Thinking about requesting a change?

When asked what residence hall is the best, we always respond that it's the people that make the experience, not the building. But if you're looking for something a little more specific, these options may just fit the bill.

Room Layouts are available for download to view room dimensions, and find out more about your new residence.

Requests for changes to housing or roommate assignments can be made via email to housing@eiu.edu. Please include your name and Enumber along with your specific request.
