Motion Against BPR
How do you feel about only talking to a computer? This may not be far from reality if our voices are not heard!
The University are trying to find more effective ways of administrating University business through their Business Process Review (BPR).
However, none of the proposed changes are being communicated to or discussed with students or staff. We believe there is a worrying lack of concern for the opinions of those that count.
We want the University to halt the review and ensure proper consultation takes place before any changes are initiated.
You can read the full motion here.
Discussion on Lancaster and Liverpool
On July 1st 2011, it was announced to all Lancaster University staff that a joint group had been set up with Liverpool to "explore the benefits of closer collaboration". Since then, the University have held several consultations, released papers discussing potential options and met several times with counterparts at Liverpool University.
It has been requested that the General Meeting holds a discussion on the progress of this process. LUSU President George Gardiner will inform the meeting of the most recent updates before the floor is opened for discussion.
Statement on College Bars
Since early summer last year LUSU officers and senior staff have been engaged in discussions with University officers and staff about how a positive future could be developed around student social life in colleges, and in particular how the bars could be best run to deliver that.
Those discussions were conducted in an amicable and forward-looking way. A sustainable operating model, which improved the student experience was developed with co-operation from all involved.
However recently it became clear that various legal and business related issues were insuperable obstacles and meant that an agreement could not then be concluded, regrettably.
LUSU remains committed to the principle of each college having its own bar, with a renewed focus on meeting the needs of current students, staff and their Colleges. We will continue to work in that spirit and in the belief that the ideas developed last year are the kernel for the future.
