All systems go!

As you may have heard in recent press reports, we have received the news we have been waiting for from the Department for Education: The Secretary of State for Education has agreed to enter into a funding agreement with The Ongar Academy Trust which formally confirms our opening on 7th September 2015.

We are all absolutely thrilled as this legal document is the Government’s commitment that The Ongar Academy will open and is one of the final stages in the process towards opening our fantastic new school. It is also a clear sign that the Department for Education is happy that we are in a strong position to deliver a high-quality education to the children of Ongar and the surrounding villages.

We are now able to make firm, unconditional offers to students and accelerate the procurement of everything we need in preparation for the grand opening.

Of course, there’s a lot more to do over the coming months but we are in a very strong position moving forwards.

We could not have got this far without the fantastic support of the Department for Education, Education Funding Agency, our superb team of staff, consultants, Governors and the wider community and especially the parents who have applied for places at the school – THANK YOU!

Decision letters are in the post!

It’s been all hands on deck here at The Ongar Academy as we approach National Offer Day.

If you have applied for a Year 7 place at The Ongar Academy for this September, you will receive notification of our decision by post on Monday 2nd March.

We look forward to welcoming our founding students to our wonderful educational community.

Recruitment success

As you will know, our Headteacher, David Grant, comes to us from the 4th most successful secondary school in the country and perhaps as a result, we have been inundated with enquiries and applications from exceptionally well qualified teachers.

Our Senior Leadership Team is now complete and the recruitment of our remaining teaching staff is in progress. We know that parents will be impressed with the calibre of senior managers and teaching staff we are appointing and we look forward to telling you more about the talented individuals we have appointed over the coming weeks.

With a ratio of one teacher for every ten students, our founding Year 7s are guaranteed a first-class education and unrivalled attention. Our commitment to keep class sizes in the core setted subjects small, even as the school reaches full capacity, is one of the features that sets us apart from many other secondary schools.

The Campus

The funding agreement guarantees the finances needed to run the school and to put in place both the temporary and permanent facilities required.

We know that parents and students will be thrilled to read about our exciting plans for our high-quality interim facilities, all based around the fantastic Adult Community Learning Centre on Fyfield Road, which many of you will have visited on our Open Days. However, we now also have confirmed funding for our spectacular purpose-built school which will open in 2017.
