We are offering grants for UK organisations to develop partnerships in one of five countries: Brazil, Egypt, Indonesia, Pakistan and South Africa; ISIS Arts is seeking a consultant to support its organisational review and rebranding; ten projects have been selected by Programa Pontes promoting UK artistic production in Brazil; and finally last November we brought together a group of young creatives from across the Western Balkans to take part in designing the future of broadcasting which culminated in The Living Room of the Future, a short interactive cinematic experience, which you can see for yourself at FACT in Liverpool, 4 May - 8 May.

 
 

Fashion Revolutionaries: Fashion Revolution Week 2018

As part of Fashion Revolution Week, 23 – 29 April 2018, the British Council has commissioned a series of seven short films profiling the innovative stories of seven practitioners across the world, including fashion designers, artists, architects and entrepreneurs.

The films have been created in the spirit of the grassroots movement, using content produced by the practitioners themselves and directed by Kate Cox and produced by The Smalls.

Cathy Wilkes to represent Britain at the 58th International Art Exhibition

We are delighted to announce that Cathy Wilkes has been selected to represent Britain at the 58th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia. Since the late 1990s, Glasgow-based Cathy Wilkes (b. 1966, Dundonald, Belfast) has built a considerable reputation for sculptural installations of profound and mysterious intensity, which often evoke interiors and places of loss.

What is the role of culture post-conflict?

Last week British Council Northern Ireland hosted Peace and Beyond, a conference to encourage new thinking in the field of peace building and reconciliation. Twenty years on from the Good Friday/Belfast Agreement, we're asking young people how important are the arts post-conflict? British Council Director Arts Graham Sheffield has also shared his view on the role of Arts in peace building.

London Book Fair Week 2018: LBFBaltics

Each year we work with The London Book Fair on their Market Focus programme, a showcase that focuses on the publishing market of one country or region, to promote the cultural and business opportunities that exist there. Last week the spotlight fell on the Baltics, as we played host to a delegation of writers and publishers from the region. Disability-led ensemble to play BBC Proms

With summer right around the corner it's not long until to the BBC Proms takes place, and it has been revealed this week that for the first time a disability-led group will be performing at the event. The Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra's Resound ensemble, led by James Rose, hope that their performance will "inspire people, with or without a disability, to engage with music and open up more opportunities for diversity and accessibility in the arts sector."

Blue Lab Beats in Morocco

In the UK, there’s a strong argument to say we are living in another golden age of jazz right now and, within it, two friends from North London are establishing themselves as an important fixture. Blue Lab Beats have emerged as key players on the London jazz scene. We caught up with the duo to talk to them about their music and their recent British Council supported trip to Morocco where they collaborated with fellow musician Saad Tiouly.

Hip-hop musical Hamilton breaks Olivier record as it wins seven gongs

Lin-Manuel Miranda’s incredible Hamilton broke Olivier history taking home a record-breaking seven awards at this year's ceremony. The highly popular West End show presents to audiences the life and times of American founding father Alexander Hamilton. Michael Jibson who plays King George III won best actor for his performance and describes Hamilton as "one of the most exciting experiences" of his career.
