Welcome to the latest edition of news from the Smarter Together project, a member of the EU Horizon 2020 research program. The European lighthouse cities Vienna, Munich and Lyon as well as the follower cities Santiago de Compostela, Sofia and Venice come together in order to improve the quality of life of their citizens. Below you will find updates on the development of co-created and replicable Smart City solutions in 5 concrete areas– citizen engagement, district heating & renewable energy, holistic refurbishment, smart data and e-mobility.

 
 
 

Smarter Together Participates in Smart City Expo Barcelona

Smarter Together along with 11 sister projects met at the Smart City Expo World Congress on 13-15 November 2018 in Barcelona, Spain. The projects came together at the EU Smart Cities stand to showcase their projects and initiatives, as well as the collective work being done to help shape the smart cities market across Europe. Munich's District Heating Focus

One of Smarter Together’s main areas of focus is district heating and increasing the use of renewable energy wherever possible. Munich has been working towards eco-refurbishment and modernisation of heat distribution infrastructure including smart meters and other smart home solutions - take a look here to learn more.

Eco-refurbishment Progresses in Lyon Confluence

This November, a new eco-refurbishment project has been confirmed in Lyon Confluence to be eco-refurbished within the framework of Smarter Together, adding a total of 36 housing units and 2,700 m2 to be refurbished as part of the project. Vienna Hosts First Research Festival for Kids      

On 9 November 2018, Kathrin Gaál, Executive Councilor for Women and Housing, top researchers, and others attended the first Research Festival of Smarter Together in Simmering, Vienna that was implemented in cooperation with the local educational institution Science Pool. Click here to learn more about the importance of the event.

Smarter Together Social Media Spotlights

 

Smarter Together recently participated in the 11th annual SET Plan conference held in Vienna from 20-21 November 2018. Julia Girardi-Hoog from the city of Vienna and Hans-Martin Neumann from the Austrian Institute of Technology presented Smarter Together and best practices from Vienna, showcasing energy efficient solutions such as the zero-energy gym mentioned below.
