Art in the Time of Coronavirus brings together influential art world voices to explore the role and value of art when facing systemic-level, global threats like COVID-19. This dialogue will be held on Earth Day to highlight Coronavirus' connection to our ecological emergency. Leading UN environmental agencies have described the virus as nature’s first ‘warning shot’ to civilizations playing with fire. How are artists and art organizations responding to the health, economic and environmental effects of this unprecedented pandemic? And what role can art play in building a better world in the crisis’ aftermath?

This marks the first in a series of UN75 Moderated Dialogues by The Future is Unwritten, a New York-based initiative launched by CULTURUNNERS and World Council of Peoples for the United Nations (WCPUN), to engage the arts and culture sector in United Nations global policy discussions and implementation efforts.

The one hour discussion will be followed by a public Q&A and conclude with an invitation to join a global reading of Letters to the Earth.

The views, concerns and ideas expressed in UN75 Moderated Dialogues and Surveys will be presented to world leaders of all 193 UN Member States and senior UN officials at the official commemoration of the 75th Anniversary by the UN General Assembly in September 2020. After September, groups around the world will discuss how best to take forward the priorities and proposals generated.
