Exciting transitions and direction for 2023

We farewell the incredible Janie Walker who has been core to the mahi of Community Research. Her leadership, drive and determination worked to constantly shine the light on the important work of research being undertaken for communities by communities within Aotearoa. We are very appreciative of all the incredible work Janie has put in over the last few years. Thankfully her expertise will not be lost as she will continue to input into research projects in the future. We also said goodbye to our Kaitūhono – Research Sector Engagement and Projects Lead, Dr Gauri Nandedkar. Gauri took the opportunity to pursue an exciting role in her field of social research and we wish her the very best for her future.

Community Research are excited to welcome Lorna Ingram as our new Kaiwhakahaere Mātua. Lorna brings with her a breadth of experience in organisational management and fundraising in the for purpose sector.

Jordan Green joins us as our Research Programme's Coordinator. She brings her energy and enthusiasm to Community Research leading our mahi on the Special Collections launches, and Project Manager for our sector event Imagining futures of Community Led Research.

Special Collection - Housing

Community Research completed an independent state of housing report in 2022. This report identified clearly where the gaps exist in both housing research, and services within Aotearoa. The housing report conducted by Community Research identified the major housing service providers and whom they serviced. To best bring attention to these significant gaps in the housing focus we have curated resources for you in a Special Housing Collection. The Special Housing Collection brings together into one space links to external research held by the major housing providers and social services.

We invite other researchers with an interest in this space to contribute to this valuable collection.

Launch: Tuesday 21 March 2023, 11am-12pm

Housing for all - Speaking to the research landscape and actioning solutions.

We are holding a webinar to mark the launch of our Special Collection - Housing. This webinar is an opportunity for the community to hear from those working at the face of housing support services. And a chance for us to ask what research or next steps should be undertaken to ensure that there are actionable results to address the gaps in the research and services for housing in Aotearoa.

Aaron Hendry will be offering his perspective as a social worker working alongside rangatahi. We will also be joined by housing service providers, (CHA) Community Housing Aotearoa, and a representative from Kahungunu Whānau Services.

Date: Tuesday 21 March 2023, 11am-12pm

Imagining futures of Community-led Research - an online gathering

Through a co-design process we were able to redefine the need and scope for raising the mana of community research in Aotearoa. Imagining futures of Community-led Research will be an event that focuses on community researchers - providing an opportunity to share their aspirations and identify how research can play a role in shaping actionable outcomes to achieve those aspirations.

It will be a space to dream big. The event format will link together regions, and communities, under one kaupapa to provide a framework that will help researchers connect and kōrero for transformational change.

Ngā mihi nui to the wonderful researchers, community leaders and others we met with in 2022.  We look forward to seeing you again.
